March 16, 2020 | Temporary Changes to our Tasting Room
This is a unique time, in which we are all being asked to find different ways to engage, learn, work, dance, even play. In that spirit, Anglim will suspend tasting, including for the upcoming ZinFest weekend. We will remain on-site daily 12-5pm and available by telephone and email for delivery or pick-up orders, and will offset shipping charges to ease the impact for those out of the area. We appreciate your support as we all try to be good neighbors. Steve and Steffanie Anglim July 7, 2019 | Anglim Shipping Expands!

December 22, 2018 | Winemaker's Club Release!
It's out, and it's a great one! Get our very very limited 2015s with this Fall 2018 Club package, plus add on our new Rosé of Pinot Noir. Delicious! If you don't have your wines, please check your email and be in touch with us -- we probably need to update your information. It's too late to ship for Christmas, but we can get it there for New Year's Eve (most locations). Happy Holidays! September 1, 2018 | September is Grenache Month!
Grenache is one of our favorite varieties here at Anglim, so we are thrilled, in light of International Grenache Day on September 21st, to celebrate Grenache all month long. In keeping with our focus on 100% single-vineyard varietal wines, we have two Grenaches to compare and contrast: - Anglim Grenache Paso Robles Adelaida District, 2014: Farmed on the north west side, about halfway out Adelaida Road, this Grenache shows
bright black cherry, juicy boysenberry, a hint of earth and a nice kick of spice on the finish.
Anglim Grenache Paso Robles Willow Creek District, 2014: This southwest side Grenache is dry-farmed and beautifully fragrant, full of wild strawberry, rose petals, herbs and earth, and hints of licorice at the back.
These are the same clone of Grenache, so the distinctions are a good comparison of terroir. Why not mix up a case? Grenache Month Special July 23, 2018 | Shipping Hold Due to Heat

But keep checking here and in your email for further updates. Meanwhile, we'll see you at the Depot! February 1, 2018 | The BIG NEWS!
We're moving! We've been hoping for some time to combine our winery and tasting room facilities, and we've finally made it happen. We're in the process of building out our space along Ramada Drive in Paso Robles, just west of Tin City (map). We'll be joining Cordant/Nelle, Anarchy Wine Co., Seven Oxen, CalWise Spirits, and Kilo Kilo Brewing in this new cluster; it should make for a great tasting day! We'll be planning more events once we're in the new space, including winery tours, expanded access to barrel tastings for our members, pick-up parties, dinners, maybe even a little trivia... On a slightly more bittersweet note, this move does mean we will be closing our Train Depot tasting room -- but not until our move into the new place is completed. Please continue to visit us at the depot until you hear from us again. We anticipate moving sometime this Spring! November 2, 2017 | Sofie's Corner: See's Candies Fundraiser

We are big grillers at our house; there's just something about smoky, grilled meat that speaks to us. On a random Tuesday, it was Sofia's choice for dinner. She requested Steve's dry-rub mix, and since the protein in the house was Chicken, the Dry-rub Chicken was born. Steve makes his own rubs; they never include garlic, and will often include paprika, cumin, brown sugar, dry mustard, a and pinch of cayenne. The rub adds complexity without being dominant, and works equally well with chicken or pork.
What You'll Need: - A whole chicken
- Your dry-rub of choice; Steve's mixture is noted below.
- Olive oil
- Salt and pepper
- Accompaniments. We used fingerling potatoes and asparagus, also grilled.
The Rub:- 1/4 cup sweet paprika
- 2 tablespoons packed dark brown sugar
- 1 teaspoon ginger powder (his substitute for garlic)
- 1 tablespoon fresh-ground black pepper
- 1 tablespoon chili powder
- 1 tablespoon cayenne pepper, or to taste depending on how spicy yours is.
We like a hint of heat. - 1 tablespoon onion powder
- 1 tablespoon dried pepper of your choice; ancho is a good one.
- 1 1/2 teaspoons ground cumin
- 1 1/2 teaspoons dry mustard powder
The Cooking:- Butterfly a whole chicken; it's worth it.
- Spray chicken with olive oil, inside and out, and then salt and pepper liberally both in and out. Add the dry-rub, covering all surfaces as well.
- Let the chicken come to room temperature. Meanwhile, prepare your accompaniments. We tossed potatoes and asparagus in olive oil, salt, and pepper, and set them aside.
- Put chicken on the grill breast-side up; Steve recommends the top rack away from direct heat (375-400 degrees). Cook for 45 - 60 minutes, or until cooked through and crispy. Leave the lid closed. Really.
- About half-way through the cooking time, put the potatoes in foil and place them on the grill.
- When the chicken and potatoes are finished, remove from grill and set aside to rest. Turn the grill heat to high, and put the asparagus on directly. Don't walk away -- asparagus is like a toddler...
The Serving:- Once the asparagus and potatoes are cooked through, carve the meat, plate and enjoy.
- Steffanie had our Grenache with this meal; Steve chose Syrah. Both were delicious!

January 1, 2016 | Wine Enthusiast Reviews
We are very thankful for these kind words from Matt Kettmann of Wine Enthusiast. All wines except the 2012 Grenache can be ordered here.
- 92 Anglim Best Barrel Blend Red 2012
(Paso Robles). A well-named wine from vintner Steve Anglim, this blend of 33% Grenache, 33% Syrah, 33% Mourvèdre and 1% Viognier is indeed great, with aromas of licorice, pencil lead, iron, black raspberry, black pepper and a touch of tobacco smoke. The palate is powered by boysenberry, cracked pepper, a touch of asphalt and then a very lifting wild-mint character. -M.K.abv: 15.4% Price: $42
- 91 Anglim Grenache 2012
(Paso Robles). Rose petals, red currants, red licorice and a bit of snapped sage stick entertain the nose on this bottling, which can be sampled at the producer’s downtown Paso tasting room. Earl Grey tea, dried orange rind and dried violets play on the palate, which cuts the elderberry fruit with sharp, slightly bitter cherry pits. -M.K.abv: 15.6% Price: $38 - 89 Anglim Cerise 2012
(Central Coast). Round red fruits, hibiscus and rose petals show brightly on the nose of this blend of 44% Grenache, 43% Mourvèdre, 11% Syrah and 2% Viognier. It’s light in body and easy to quaff thanks to vibrant, zinging acidity, with flavors of pepper, more hibiscus and pomegranate.-M.K. abv: 14.6% Price: $28
- 88 Anglim Mourvedre Hastings Ranch 2012 (Paso Robles).
There’s a warm leathery character to the squeezed black cherry, black plum and violet notes on the nose of this wine from a vineyard on Paso’s westside. Flavors are rustic and tart with barely ripe berries, showing balanced zing that lasts a long time as well as a grippy texture. -M.K. abv: 14.6% Price: $38
October 1, 2015 | Winemaker's Club Fall 2015 Released!

(1/2 Mixed; 2/4 White Only; excluded for Red Only) (Retail 32.00, Club 25.60): This second variation was also gently pressed, but then barrel-fermented and aged in all new French oak cooperage. - Viognier Bien Nacido Vineyard “Skin Contact – New French Oak”, SBC 2013
(1/2 Mixed; 2/4 White Only; excluded for Red Only) (Retail 32.00, Club 25.60): The third variation spent some time on the skins before being fermented and aged in all-new French oak cooperage. - Mourvèdre Hastings Ranch Vineyard, Paso Robles 2012
(1/2 Mixed; 2/4 Red Only; excluded for White Only) (Retail 38.00, Club 30.40): Another great vintage of 100% Mourvèdre, somewhat fuller and fruitier than the 2011, reflecting the return to warmer temperatures in 2012. - Best Barrel Blend, Paso Robles 2012
(1/2 Mixed; 2/4 Red Only; excluded for White Only) (Retail 42.00, Club 33.60): 33% each Grenache, Syrah and Mourvèdre, with a splash of Viognier to lift the aromas; gorgeous fruit and tannin structure. - ZSM Hastings Ranch Vineyard, Paso Robles 2013
(1/2 Mixed; 2/4 Red Only; excluded for White Only) (Retail 38.00, Club 30.40): Our new blend of Zinfandel, Syrah and Mourvèdre from the Hastings Ranch has a nice jammy front-end tamed by the earth and tannin of the Rhônes. Will-call members may pick up any time this month; we'll be pouring the wines in the tasting room the weekends of 10/2 and 10/16. December 21, 2014 | Parmesan Shortbread
Steve's wines are great food wines, so I'm always looking for new pairings to serve in the tasting room. I stumbled on this easy-and-oh-so-tasty recipe by Marc Murphy in Food and Wine. They taste like a savory shortbread to me, with a wonderfully-crisp texture and little pockets of buttery, cheesy goodness. Not only do they shine when paired with our Viognier, but they also make a great lunchbox snack! What You'll Need: 2 sticks unsalted butter 2 cups grated parmesan cheese 1 3/4 cups flour The Cooking: Preheat oven to 350° and position a rack in the upper and lower third. In a medium bowl, using a handheld electric mixer, beat the butter with the Parmesan and flour at low speed until a stiff dough forms. (Note: This takes a bit longer than you might expect; a glass of wine here helps things along. And, no, Marc Murphy didn't actually say this, but I'll bet he would in hindsight...) Divide the dough into 3 pieces, then roll each piece into a 9-inch log, about 1 1/2 inches in diameter. Slice the logs 1/3 inch thick and arrange the slices on 2 large, nonstick baking sheets. Bake for 18 minutes, or until golden, shifting the pans halfway through baking for even browning. Let the cookies cool for 10 minutes, then transfer them to a wire rack to cool completely. Store in an airtight container for up to a week, assuming they last that long. December 6, 2014 | Wine Enthusiast Best of Year Buying Guide
We are very thankful for these kind words and ratings from Matt Kettmann of Wine Enthusiast, including two Editors' Choice selections: "Roasting meats, crackling fires, warm gingerbread and peppermint spices aren't just what winter season smells like-they're basic descriptors for Syrah and other Rhône-style blends, which make them a perfect fit for the chilly months when you're inside with friends and family, ideally around tables stocked with rich foods and hearths hot with burning embers. ...Syrah did not become California's "next big thing," as was widely predicted during the 1990s, and Central Coast Syrahs and blends are still emerging from the shadows of more popular red grapes like Cabernet Sauvignon and Zinfandel (particularly from Paso Robles) and Pinot Noir (from most everywhere else). But when planted in special spots and treated with care, these are arguably the most dynamic and delicious wines being made on the West Coast today....Because Syrah and other Rhône varieties haven't yet reached the prices fetched by other grapes, there are deals to be had. Pay particular attention to everything being made (Rhône-style and otherwise) by Anglim, Comartin and Epiphany." Wine Enthusiast 93 Anglim 2011 Syrah (Paso Robles). This is a wine to smell all day long, with dried rose petals, violets, cigar ash and blackberry fruit chews evolving into elegant aromas. The flavors are distinct and delicious as well, with long-lingering pepper spice, plum jam and beautiful florals. Editors' Choice. -M.K. abv: 14.8% Price: $28 93 Anglim 2011 Hastings Ranch Vineyard Mourvedre (Paso Robles). More people would crave Mourvèdre if it were done in this style, with light rather than heavy leather scents alongside purple fruits. Once sipped, it hits the tastebuds with blueberry soda, tobacco, licorice, black pepper and wild game, all restrained and juicy rather than brooding and thick. Editors' Choice. -M.K. abv: 14.9% Price: $38 91 Anglim 2010 Best Barrel Blend Syrah-Mourvèdre (Paso Robles). Very appealing aromas of warm strawberry-cherry pie, red licorice and red rose promise ripe juiciness in this nearly equal blend of Syrah and Mourvèdre. The palate delivers with cherry cola, and the wine almost seems sweet, yet is bone dry, with nice grippy tannins as well. -M.K. abv: 15.5% Price: $42 90 Anglim 2012 Bien Nacido Vineyard Viognier (Santa Barbara County). Nicely rounded pear aromas surround lemon-lime soda and honey in the center of the nose on this refreshing, cooler-climate Viognier, which offers very pleasant flavors of peach and citrus rind. It's light-bodied and very easy going down. -M.K. abv: 14.2% Price: $28 November 3, 2014 | Magnums for the Holidays
Magnums of our delectable Pinot Noir Fiddlestix Vineyard 2010 are now available! Order online or call us at 805-227-6813 to get yours for the holidays, or to send as gifts. October 11, 2014 | Pioneer Day

We are in the process of adding a priority warm-weather shipping option; details are coming! Thanks for your patience. March 3, 2013 | Recipe: Steve's Lamb Burgers
Steve started with a 2.5 lb leg of lamb, which he deboned and cut into 1 inch cubes. Then he cut a 1lb strip steak into 1" cubes as well. He passed both through a course grinding plate (attachment to the ever-so-handy Kitchenaid Mixer), then mixed them, seasoned the mixture with salt, pepper, and ground cumin, and passed the meat through a second time. He formed it into loose patties (about 3/4" thick). He heated his most favorite cast iron skillet until smokin' hot, then cooked the patties 2 minutes on each side until brown. He transferred them to a 450 degree oven and baked until done to our liking. Steve likes a warm red center. Adorn as you wish. Sofia ate hers plain. Steve added grilled onions, fresh tomato, and seeded mustard. Steffanie added grilled onions, sour pickles and yogurt sauce (plain yogurt, cumin, salt and pepper). Grab a bottle of our 2008 Grenache, and feast! February 14, 2013 | Presidents' Day Weekend Special Hours

Many thanks to Jeb Dunnuck for producing a terrific review of rhone wines. If you haven't read The Rhone Report, you should; it is a comprehensive and well-written journal. And, it includes reviews of some Anglim favorites: - 2008 Anglim Grenache Blanc Red Cedar Vineyard (USA, California, Central Coast, Paso Robles) $28,
The 2008 Anglim Grenache Blanc Red Cedar Vineyard is 100% Grenache Blanc that was fermented and aged for 6 months in French oak. The wine is ripe and round, showing apple and citrus notes on the nose. With air, it gains richness and shows a subtle honeyed character, as well as good spice, flowers, and earth. Medium to full bodied on the palate with a lush, full texture, sweet fruit, and good acidity that comes through on the finish, this fruit forward white should be consumed during its first 5 years. (88 pts.)
- 2007 Anglim Roussanne (USA, California, Central Coast, Paso Robles) $24
Buttery and honeyed, the 2007 Anglim Roussanne is 100% Roussanne that was aged on lees for 18 months in neutral French oak. It shows a medium gold color, as well as great aromatics of baked apple pie and tropical fruits, honeycomb, buttered bread, and touches of wet river rock. These lead into a medium to full bodied wine that‟s well textured and seamless, showing sweet, round fruit and good acidity on the finish. All in all, a very well done, rich Roussanne that is drinking beautifully. (89 pts.)
- 2007 Anglim Viognier Bien Nacido Vineyard (USA, California, Central Coast, Santa Barbara County) $26 An outstanding Viognier, the 2007 Anglim Viognier Bien Nacido Vineyard has classy aromatics of orange blossom, peach, vanilla custard, buttered bread, and floral notes. Perfumed and complex on the nose, it‟s medium+ bodied on the palate, showing a seamless, fat texture, moderate acidity, and long, rich finish. On the full side of the spectrum, but done very well and a joy to drink. Drink over the next year or two. (90 pts.)
- 2007 Anglim Mourvedre Hastings Ranch (USA, California, Central Coast, Paso Robles) $34
The only red from this estate I able to taste, the 2007 Anglim Mourvedre Hastings Ranch possesses a perfumed, peppery character with black cherry, forest floor, leather, and smoked herb aromas coming through with air. Medium bodied on the palate, with both sweet and savory flavors, the wine has a light, balanced texture, good acids, and a focused, chewy finish. Outstanding and this should drink beautifully for 8 to 10 years. (91 pts.)
November 1, 2010 | Pneumonia's Last Syrah: Buy a Case, Stop a Case
Picture a World Without Pneumonia Pneumonia is the world’s leading killer of children. In developing countries, children need access to vaccines and medicines that can help protect them from this disease’s terrible consequences. Buy a Case, Stop a Case Recognizing that pneumonia can be stopped by a vaccine that costs $10, Anglim and the Rhone Rangers invite you to celebrate our commitment to donate $10 for each case of American Syrah sold to consumers in the month of November toward providing urgently needed pneumonia vaccines to children in the world’s poorest countries. You may order a full case of our Anglim Syrah ($245 net of case discount), or take advantage of our Syrah Case Deal, in which you buy 12+ bottles of Anglim wines (any assortment), and add a case of our Syrah for only $100 more. It’s a great opportunity to stock up on wines for the holidays, and benefit a great cause. Order Syrah Our Partners Based at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health, the International Vaccine Access Center (IVAC) aims to accelerate global access to life-saving vaccines through development and implementation of evidence-based policies. Learn more at http://www.jhsph.edu/ivac The GAVI Alliance’s mission is to save children’s lives and protect people’s health by increasing access to vaccines in poor countries. In ten years, GAVI has vaccinated 257 million children and averted over 5 million deaths. Learn more at http://www.gavialliance.org/ A Little Background A recent article by Eric Asimov in the New York Times began “There’s a joke going around West Coast wine circles: What’s the difference between a case of syrah and a case of pneumonia? You can get rid of the pneumonia.” As America's leading organization dedicated to the promotion of American Rhone varieties (of which Syrah is the most widely planted) Asimov's article, and the response on Huffington Post by pneumonia expert Dr. Orin Levine of Johns Hopkins Medical Center, got our attention. We share the feeling many Rhone producers have had for years that more could be done to bring attention to this wonderful grape. So, the Rhone Rangers, in conjunction with Dr. Levine and the GAVI Alliance, have created Pneumonia’s Last Syrah. As a part of this campaign, participating Rhone Rangers wineries will contribute to GAVI $10.00 for each case of Syrah that they sell to consumers in November. September 21, 2010 | "Wine Is..." Paso Robles' own "Wine Is …" which includes a spot by our very own Steve Anglim, wins 2010 Wine Spectator Video Contest | News | New: http://bit.ly/9kH0nU via @addthis September 18, 2010 | Anglim Takes Top Honors & 93 pts. at Cabernet Shoot-out
The 2009 Cabernet Sauvignon Shootout began with a series of blind tastings over a six week period as the wines were tasted in groups of 32 wines per session. The top wines were then tasted blind to determine the best of the best, and rated on a scale of hearts and points, with 4 hearts and 100 points as tops. Here are the reviews for our Anglim 2006 Starr Ranch Cabernet Sauvignon, Paso Robles ($34.00, 139 cases produced): - Female: Four Hearts (93 points - Top Scorer) Ripe black fruit with hints of cinnamon redhots frame the captivating nose. Juicy black cherry and black currant flavors are enhanced by herbal notes. Beautiful structure and nice acidity balance the pretty fruit.
- Male: Four Hearts (91 points - Top 10): Bright well developed aromatics displaying ripe fruity and toasty oak. Very forward flavors of blackberries and cherries with cocoa/mocha accents. A very pleasing and easy to drink wine. Great finish.

Great video from the Los Angeles Rhone Rangers tasting, shot by Dan and Doug of Video on Wines! (Keep an eye out for Steffanie...) Rhone Rangers LA Video August 30, 2010 | Parker Reviews: Anglim Pinot Noirs 90 pts.
In the latest issue of the Wine Advocate (#190, August 2010), Robert Parker gives 90 points to both Anglim Pinot Noirs. Here's what he has to say: A top-notch personality is well-displayed in these two beautifully fruity, dense, and harmonious Pinot Noirs. - The 2007 Pinot Noir Fiddlestix has loads of new saddle leather, loamy soil notes intermixed with strawberries and black cherries. Medium-bodied and elegant, it tastes like a premier cru from Burgundy’s Cote de Beaune. The color is a medium/dark plum, and the wine is best drunk over the next 3-5 years. 90 points.
- Completely different stylistically is the 2007 Pinot Noir Bien Nacido. Deep garnet, with notes of dark cherries, sassafras, tobacco leaf, and earth, this medium-bodied wine builds incrementally but authoritatively on the palate. It finishes with sweet tannins and impressive richness. Drink it over the next 5-6 years. 90 points.

We are feeling the love from the folks at Affairs of the Vine! In the 8th Annual Pinot Noir Shootout, our 2007 Bien Nacido received 4 hearts, and the 2007 Fiddlestix 3 hearts. both wines were described as well-structured and age-worthy. Thank you! February 13, 2010 | Kudos for Anglim Mourvedre
Our Anglim 2007 Mourvedre - Hastings Ranch Vineyard (our first varietal Mourvedre) is again receiving positive wine reviews! - James Laube of Wine Spectator described the wine as "Firm and spicy, medium-to-full-bodied, notably peppery, with dried berry fruit and subtle earthy touches. This is elegant and stylish. 88 points."
- Tanzer's Josh Raynolds described it as "Fresh red berries and cherry on the nose, with complicating notes of dried flowers and licorice. Juicy, fresh red fruit flavors are framed by silky tannins and given lift by zesty minerality...This wine avoids the hardness that plagues many examples of this variety. 90 points."
